Mt Wellington

The main mountain in Hobart is called Mt Wellington. If you want to drive up the mountain it takes 22km to get to the top. Once you get to the top of the mountain there is a big look out up the top and if you look of it you can see the Derwent valley down the southern ocean and across to Port Arthur. On a clear day when you drive up the mountain you can see over 100km away

Mt Wellington is the second youngest in the Auckland volcanic field . The volcano erupted about 9000 years ago. Mt Wellington covers 18,250 hectares and rising 1270 meters (around 4000 feet).

In February 1836 a man called Charles
Darwin climbed Mt Wellington. The
Aboriginal name for Mt Wellington is
Unghbanyahletta or Poorawetter.

Mt Wellington is frequently covered in snow, Sometimes even in summer the slopes are thickly covered in frost.

Bennetts Wallaby

The most common native wallaby in Tasmania is the Bennetts wallaby also known as the red necked wallaby or the wide spread.

The species of the Bennetts wallaby distinguished from the pademelon and the forester kangaroo.
The Bennetts wallaby eats mostly grass and herbs.
They are usually more than 20kg and the cans stand up to 1.5m tall.

The species is found though out the state, including the Bass Straight Islands. Their numbers have expanded over the past 30 years. They are mostly found in groups and they also have long tails.
