Post The last tiger...
I read that the last Tasmanian tiger died in captivity in Hobart in 1936  . The date it died, 7th September, is now the day we hold National Threatened Species Day. Is anyone doing anything interesting on that day?

I found some interesting info on Tassie tigers, :geek: get this, the tasmanian tigers main food chain was wallabies, birds, sheep and dead rabbits. They only really had one predator, us humans. :(

My (code) name is Misao, and I've discovered some info on the Tassie Tiger.
Its main food-chain is sheep, birds, wallabies and dead rabbits. Also, rock-paintings have been found around Australia of the Tassie Tiger, meaning that it's possible that the Aborigines may have eaten it. :geek:

The Ta

ssie Tiger Is not from the cat or dog family, but it's a marsupial. Fossils show that it lived in Australia and New Guinea 3000 years ago. In 2005 the Bulletin offered a 1.25 million reward for the safe capture of a Tassie tiger. The Tassie tiger was able to stand on it's hind legs for up to 3 minutes. The Tiger could open its jaws up to 120 degrees.

Post Apologies.
Sorry, if I have repeated some stuff, but here is some more info on the Tassie tiger.
It is believed that they mate during Winter and Spring.

Thanks for that info Misao, I'll be heading down to SW Tas in 3 short weeks which puts us right in the middle of spring. Perhaps good for tiger hunting but the weather is always difficult to predict for this part of the world- it's often windy and fairly wet in October.
I was just out talking to Greg from Par Avion (the company who are flying me down to Melaleuca) and he said that winter is usually calmer than spring. The daylight hours are a lot shorter but clear and calm days in June are much more common than people would imagine.
